Zurich Center for Integrative Human Physiology (ZIHP)

About us

The Zurich Center for Integrative Human Physiology (ZIHP) is a virtual network that brings together more than 100 research groups. It is an interdisciplinary center associated to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zurich. Integrative physiology combines research on the levels of molecules, cells, organs and the whole organism with the aim to bring into focus the complex functions of the human body.

Since its founding in 2005, the ZIHP is a unique and excellent instrument to bring the people beyond institutional or faculty borders together. With the funding of cooperative projects until 2016, basic and clinically-oriented research groups were linked. Since 2017 the ZIHP aims at establishing cooperative projects in the field of oxygen and movement in health and disease.

The ZIHP funded four assistant professorships between 2005 and 2016.

State-of-the-art equipment, techniques and services related to cardio-vascular, renal, respiratory, muscle and metabolism functions are provided by the Zurich Integrative Rodent Physiology (ZIRP) Facility.

The promotion of young researchers is ensured through the PhD Program in Integrative Molecular Medicine that is integrated in the Life Science Zurich Graduate School (LSZGS).

The ZIHP organizes regular events for the public, such the series Wissen-schaf(f)t Wissen. In 2022, the ZIHP launched the program ZIHP-Unconventional to support biomedical researchers with unconventional careers.
